The Austin Wine Merchant is hiring. We are seeking positive, motivated, detail-oriented individuals to join our team purveying fine wines, spirits, beers, accessories and gifts to our discerning clientèle.

We have been working hard to keep things safe for our clientèle, our associates and our staff during these pandemic times, while still maintaining a high level of customer service for which we have been known for some 30 years now. We offer a friendly schedule (the shop is open Monday through Saturday 10:00 AM until 6:30 PM), competitive retail pay and a safe working environment.

Delivery Person/Stock Person

Job Description:

• Safely driving our delivery vehicle fulfilling orders to retail clients in homes and offices and wholesale orders to local bars, restaurants in the Austin area.

• Being an integral part of the team keeping our shelves stocked and inventory organized.

• Assisting our team pulling orders for retail and wholesale clients.

Schedule:

Monday through Saturday 9:30 AM until 6:30 PM (with one day off). Flexibility to work Saturdays required.

Hours:

Full-time preferred at 5 days / 40 hours per week.

Skill requirements:

• The job requires energy and repeated lifting of boxes that can weigh 40 pounds or more (the weight of a single case of wine or spirits).

• Attention to details and organization; we work hard to satisfy detailed client requests and keep our shop and shelves neat and tidy.

• Ability to work and complete tasks in a fast-paced, interruption-driven environment.

• Must be at least 21 years old with valid Texas Driver License (clean driving history required; background check may be performed).

• Cell phone/smartphone to use while on delivery.

• A positive attitude and passion for the product and performance of your work.



Wine Clerk

Job Description:

• Primary customer-facing salesperson for wine (as well as assisting with other product lines in store such as spirits, beers, gifts and accessories)

• Service client requests in a knowledgeable, courteous and efficient manner via in-person interaction, telephone and e-Mail.

• Be an integral part of the team keeping our shelves stocked, inventory organized and customer orders delivered to their car on request

• Learn by doing: expand your knowledge of wine / spirits while on the job through discussions with teammates and tasting opportunities

Schedule:

Monday through Saturday 9:30 AM until 6:30 PM (with one day off). Flexibility to work Saturdays required.

Skill requirements:

• Detailed knowledge of wine, major regions, varietals, vinification, stylistic differences.

• The job requires energy and repeated lifting of boxes that can weigh 40 pounds or more (the weight of a single case of wine or spirits).

• Proactive and self-starter personality.

• Attention to details and organization; we work hard to satisfy client requests and keep our shop and shelves neat and tidy.

• Ability to work and complete tasks in a fast-paced, interruption-driven environment.

• Proficient computer knowledge (Windows, Excel, Gmail, Google Apps) and typing skills (a lot of our client interaction is by e-Mail).

• A positive attitude and passion for the product and performance of your work.



Benefits

After six-months of employment, full-time employees are entitled to one week of paid vacation within the next six-month period. After one full year of employment, full-time employees are entitled to two weeks of paid vacation within the following year. Vacation is to be taken outside the months of October, November and December. Paid vacation is not cumulative.

After 6 months of employment, full-time employees are entitled to one week of sick pay. After one year of employment, full-time employees are entitled to two weeks of sick pay.

Part-time employees are entitled to sick pay based on pro-rated basis of the City of Austin's recommended guideline of 1 hour of sick pay for every 30 hours worked or, should this for whatever reason not be applicable, on a pro-rated number of hours based on the employee's previous year's hours worked.

Sick pay is not cumulative and is not to be claimed for any reason other than illness on the part of the employee, the employee's spouse or children or other close relative or dependent that would prevent one from being at work and fulfilling one's duties here.
